The Race (Philippians 3:12-14)
"Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
The interlinear bible captures the direct word for each word in translation to English. Today’s language may change the meaning and context of the original Greek text.
Background to the race
In Paul's time, the focus seems towards the Olympic games - which did have a marathon run. This video gives the setting and context of running towards the prize. Through the Greek history of the Olympics, the importance of it becomes clear, and you see the stripped down nature of the runners - (losing every weight)
If you want the more amusing version, horrible histories covers this too, though not as well in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9lFwCDuj38. (The olympic games did continue in roman times, and was opened to Roman citizens as well as greeks) Tx Zane.
